She received recognition for her role as a lead character in the science fiction thriller Super 8, which won the Spotlight Award in the Hollywood film festival. She then played the title role in the comedy films We Bought a Zoo (2011) as well as Ginger & Rosa (2012) and also the part of the princess Aurora in the fantasy movie Maleficent (2014) and Maleficent The Misstress of Evil (2019).
