Gerina was a student at Goddard High School for her higher education in high school. She won at the New Mexico State Golf Tournament in her high school years. She was also an athlete in volleyball who played at the state level. At the age of 2003, she began her studies at the University of Texas. Through the latter seasons of her professional career, she won each tournament in which she competed. Through her college years she won an award called the Conference USA Player of The Year award and the Female UTEP Sports Athelete Award.
